Emily in France 🇫🇷 I'm Not Hungry Anymore

I've eaten too much pastry.
When I was backpacking through Europe with friends, years ago now, I hit a food wall. We'd been eating so much delicious pasta and pizza and pastry that finally, all I could even consider eating was pre-washed salad. I bought some and ate it directly out of the bag, sitting on a square in front of the Bordeaux cathedral.
I wish I was more ashamed of this.
I'm aware that complaining about eating fantastic food all the time is not going to make me any friends, but friends... I'm tapped out. I've been eating my way through Paris in preparation for a month-long trip out of town. I've eaten tarts and bread and eclairs. I've eaten more pigeon than I know what to do with. I've eaten way too much cheese.
I didn't know there was a thing as too much cheese.
I'm ready for a salad.
After this Paris-Brest, that is.

Where I'm Eating

I'm a big fan of a good pop-up, and this ongoing one from Ake at The Broken Arm blew me away. As always, you can find my ever-evolving list of my favorite Parisian restaurants here.
Â
Where I'm Going
1. To The Red Wheelbarrow, where my dear friend Anna Polonyi is launching her new creative writing program in partnership with PICT.
2. To Robert's Thai night extravaganza.
3. To Cédric Grolet's bakery, which first opened to "hysteria" and is hopefully now merely mayhem.

What I'm Writing
1. This look at a cool collaboration between two Parisian craft producers – one of beer and one of coffee – for October.
2. This list of some of Paris' best vegetarian restaurants for the Culture Trip.
3. This deep dive into how much weight is healthy to try to lose in a week for Eat This, Not That.
What I'm Reading
1. This balanced look at socialism in France in the Financial Times.
2. This look at the gentrification of my Paris neighborhood, the Marais, in the New York Times.
3. This story about New York's obsession with its own past, calling my hometown "homesick for itself" (a phrase I desperately wish I had coined) in Vice.
A bientôt !
