Emily in France π«π· Writing Like Hamilton
Write. Write. Write.
I have been listening to a lot of showtunes during confinement β specifically the entire soundtrack of Hamilton, which I recently saw on the West End with my BFF and have since mostly-memorized. (I even ordered a biography on the Marquis de Lafayette, which I plan to devour as soon as I'm done with Calypso, because #confinement.) But while I've only just seen the show for the first time, I actually discovered the music while driving down the Pacific Coast Highway with a very close friend of mine a year ago. And since we're writing buddies, it's perhaps no surprise that we both fixated on the line:
"Why do you write like you're running out of time?"
Of course, I do hope that my situation ends up being far less dire than Hamilton's, but there is something restless and breathless about writing in confinement. I feel like I'm constantly writing towards deadlines that, when I actually examine them, I find don't exist. Nevertheless, I'm going to keep writing, if only to distract myself from the gorgeous blue skies outside. Here are just a few of the things I've been working on lately.
1. A list of 100 of the worst foods linked to cancer for Eat This, Not That.
2. A list of nine small ways to live a more sustainable lifestyle, for AllRecipes.
3. A list of ten items that should be on any sustainable shopper's shopping list, also for AllRecipes.
4. From the archives: Grace, a short story I wrote for The Scream Online that seems particularly timely seeing as Easter is approaching.
