Emily in France 🇫🇷 I've Got Sunshine
I'm trying to be Pollyannaish about this.
We've arrived squarely in our third week of confinement, here in Paris, and it's strange how normal it sometimes feels. I went out for groceries this morning and looked up the street, realizing – or recalling, I guess – that my local bakery is only a block away; now, it seems like it's in another city.
I'm trying not to linger on the fact that I sometimes feel like a stranger in what has been my home for over a decade. I'm looking for silver linings and subsiding almost entirely on a blend of oranges, turmeric, and ginger, which I half-sip and half-spoon-into-my-mouth while I read and sit by the window, soaking up the sunshine.
Below, things I hope will make you smile.
1. My baby sister worked on the writing staff for this season of The Real O.G. The first episode she wrote for aired last night, and I am so proud I might actually burst into tears.
2. A host of culinary professionals have opted to remain open and serve Paris during lockdown. I rounded up as many as I could in this story for Paris by Mouth.
3. It is REX MANNING DAY.
4. These musicians walked up an empty street in Saint Louis playing "Stand By Me."
5. Ann Summers, best known as a UK purveyor of hen do goods, has sold more of its anatomically suggestive pasta since confinement than it has in the entire past year.
Stay safe, stay INSIDE, and à bientôt !
