Emily in France 🇫🇷 Grapes & Brie & Wine, Oh My!
It's my favorite season (for eating).
It's fall, and markets in Paris are filled with some of my favorite foods: black Muscat grapes and russet apples; Brussels sprouts and potimarron squash; pomegranate and chanterelle mushrooms. But that's not all. There's also Vacherin (also known as Mont d'Or), a cheese best enjoyed baked and drizzled over potatoes and charcuterie. There's sweet potato, impossible to find in France just a decade ago, when I first moved here. There is terrine forestière packed with black trumpet mushrooms, and there's apple tart in the window of every pâtisserie.
As in the rest of the world, Paris feels wholly different than it has in years past. I've been eschewing restaurants in favor of cooking at home and taking some of these treasures on picnics, which I enjoy during long hikes in Paris' outskirts.
It's a different Paris than the one I'm used to, but it's decidedly autumnal, and I'm making the most of it.
