Emily in France 🇫🇷 Paris Is Back Under Lockdown
Think a happy thought.
I won't lie, friends: this is a weird time. Not only does the fate of the free world hang in the balance this Tuesday, but Paris is back under strict lockdown. Everything feels like it's simmering with tension, and it's making doing anything and everything difficult – from finishing edits on my manuscript to buying an orange.
But I was raised by an eternal optimist, and damn if I won't try, in the coming days, to channel her.
Without further ado, here are five things making me smile.
1. Ali Smith's Autumn – and the stack of books I picked up at the American Library just before lockdown.
2. People flocking to the aid of bookstores, including my all-time fave, The Strand. (Also, the long, distanced line outside my local library yesterday).
3. This in-depth look at why Neil Gaiman is so very important, from LitHub.
4. This story about Chef Sohla El-Waylly finally getting the accolades – and salary – she deserves, from Vulture.
5. This version of Elliott Smith's Waltz #2.
