Emily in France 🇫🇷 Like Stuff Unironically
I would like to be done with liking things ironically.
I'm a Millennial, which, in addition to meaning I am apparently obliged to part my hair on the side and submit to mockery for skinny jeans (and to think... I hated them for so long...) I am supposed to like the things I like "ironically." I am forgiven for liking bad beer, bad television, bad movies – as long as I do so with the attitude of... isn't it funny? Isn't it funny that I like this? Don't worry, I'm only performing liking this.
I don't want to do that anymore. It's exhausting.
I actually like pop-punk and country music (Alex Melton speaks to my soul). I like Pop Tarts and Ben & Jerry's, but I also like eating the ends of carrots and the cores of apples. I like Gilmore Girls more than a person should really like a television show. (I might like Schitt's Creek even more.) I like 70s-style flared jeans and having only one pair of shoes in the winter and one in the summer. (These and these, in case you were wondering.) I like American drip coffee. I like American cheese.
Liking things is very, very nice. And now that GenZ is in charge of culture, can we Millennials finally agree to stop apologizing for the stuff we like and just... like it?

Things I'm Writing
1. I always buy souvenirs from grocery stores – here's my guide to why and how for The Discoverer.
 2. If you've been following me on Instagram, you know I eat pretty much the same thing every day (read: a lot of carrots). I asked experts what they thought – their responses for Eat This, Not That.
3. Not all body fat is created alike, and despite what experts once thought, you can actually force your body fat to turn brown, thus increasing its metabolic and mitochondrial activity. Find out more on Organic Authority.
Things I'm Reading
1. My wonderful friend Janet's book The Paris Library, a story weaving the lives of the American Library in Paris staff during World War II and the Occupation, was released in the U.S. last week. Buy your copy here.
2. Chefs love and hate the off-menu burger. Why? Find out in First We Feast.
3. We should be celebrating Black art all year long, but there's no time like the present to begin. Here are 13 Black artists you should know, from Blavity.
A bientôt !
