Greetings from sunny Texel!
As the world starts to feel a bit more normal, so return I to my regularly scheduled country-hopping. It's quite bizarre to see how easy it is to fade right back into the rhythm (albeit with multiple PCR tests, multiple masks, and multiple bottles of hand sanitizer). And I didn't ease myself in, with a journey that required two trains, three buses, and a ferry. Oh, and a lot of biking. (My quads, they scream.)
Over the course of my week-long writing retreat on the island of Texel, during which I wrote a bit, saw some seals, and ate more fish and chips than one person probably should, the weather has evolved from November to late March to June. And this June baby couldn't be happier.Â

What I'm Reading
1. I always read a book about where I'm traveling before getting there; for my trip to Texel, I read two. The one above didn't teach me too much aside from the fact that the Dutch have a propensity for wearing white socks with suits and eating sprinkles on toast, but it was a fun read nevertheless.
2. Obscenity is a marketing tool, if you ask Upton Sinclair. This 1927 piece from the New Yorker archives was a fun, funny read.
3. I made the tough choice to reduce my octopus consumption this year, but after reading this article, I'm standing firm in it. In the Washington Post.
