Emily in France 🇫🇷 Welcome Back, Americans!
Welcome back!
I thought it would never happen. Friends, I am officially a tour guide again.
I mean... I guess I never really stopped being a tour guide, not exactly. I've still got my badge. I've still got the title 'guide touristique' on all of my documents for my profession libérale status. But aside from boring my (masked) friends with stories of Napoleon's penchant for making major political decisions in the bath (and one masked video food tour I did of two of my favorite spots on the Canal Saint-Martin for Teacher Appreciation Week), I haven't actually welcomed any of you to this fair city in over a year.
This summer, that's changing.
As of tomorrow, vaccinated Americans are allowed back to Paris, and that means that Paris by Mouth is back in the business of positively stuffing you fine folks with cheese, wine, and my favorite croissants in the city. Today, I got a notification of my very first group, and friends, I'm not gonna lie.
I got a little emotional.
I cannot wait to see as many of you as possible as soon as possible in Paris!
What I'm Eating
I grew up on rugelach, so it's a real treat to have such high-quality ones at Babka Zana, which also does a stellar babka (and apparently is doing ice cream sandwiches this summer. BRT.)
Discover these treats and more on the blog this week. (And for more of my foodie finds, follow me on Instagram @emily_in_france.)
What I'm Writing
1. Want to know what Parisians drink? I've got the scoop from industry pros for The Drop.
 2. When it comes to fast food fries, many long-time McDonald's fans are defecting to Burger King. Want to know why? I do. For Mashed.
3. Less what I'm writing, more what I'm saying! I'm working on a new podcast with Paris Underground Radio, and I need your help. On Chez Toi, wine expert Tanisha Townsend and I are pairing your favorite home-cooked meals with the best wine and most complimentary cheese. Send us a recording about your favorite recipe, and we'll feature you on the podcast!
What I'm Reading
1. Persepolis tells a uniquely Iranian coming-of-age story while appealing to the feelings of invincibility and longing universal to youth everywhere. My thoughts on the blog.Â
2. The Hay Festival is ongoing, once more online. I'm a huge Angie Thomas fan, so while I haven't read Concrete Rose yet, I had to give this interview a listen.
3. How useful is a tick mark? Find out with this deep dive into the oldest productivity tool, in The New York Times.
A bientôt !
