Emily in France π«π· Greetings from the South!

Greetings from the French Riviera!
While I've lived in Paris for over a decade, I sometimes neglect to mention that the city that convinced me to move to France wasn't, in fact, the capital.
In 2007, I was a sophomore at the University of Toronto studying linguistics and cinema. And while most of my classmates were planning on studying abroad in their junior year, I made the decision β the summer before, plagued by boredom β to apply to a program in Cannes a year early.
It changed my life.
Within three weeks of arriving in Cannes, some combination of the culture, the food, the beautiful landscapes, and the friends I made convinced me to relocate. I moved to Paris for logistical reasons, thinking I would spend just a few months in the capital before moving back down south.
Of course, that was over ten years ago now. In the meantime, Paris has indeed become my home... but Cannes still has a piece of my heart.
Every year for the past five or six (we can never remember), one of my best friends and I fly south for a week in August, spending that time in our former home β the place where we met β picnicking, reading, and drinking our fair share of rosΓ©. This summer was no different.
Gosh, I love tradition.

Where I'm Eating
Pretty much every meal I eat in Cannes is eaten on the beach (on the exact same rock β from which I have been known to eject people). But once a summer, we treat ourselves to hot oysters and mussels at Astoux et Brun.
As always, you can find my list of my favorite Parisian restaurants here.

Where I'm Going

What I'm Writing
1. If you're a turophile like me, these are the ten cheeses I think you need to try, stat: new this week for USA Today.
2. Should you take a multivitamin? I asked nutritionists and doctors for Eat This, Not That.
3. Regional cuisine is one of France's strongest suits. I profiled 16 you absolutely must try around the country for Fodor's.

What I'm Reading
Particules Γ©lΓ©mentaires has been traveling to Cannes with me for four years β and for four years, it's returned, sandy and only partially finished. This year, I finally got to the end β and I'm very sorry it took me this long.Β Read my review on the blog.
A bientΓ΄t !
